Madeleines + Blood Orange Turmeric Caramel

Can you believe it's almost Valentine's Day?! That means time for chocolate, candy and more chocolate. I don't know about you, but at this point I am a little candied out. Every Valentine's Day, I eat the same old candies and this year I am changing things up (& you should too!). I decided to make these delicious Madeleines drizzled with a blood orange turmeric caramel to give out to all my Valentines this year.

I know, I sounds complicated right? I mean what even is blood orange turmeric caramel?!  Well i'm going to let you in on a little secret- this caramel look me under 15 minutes to make and was SO easy. It only consists of 4 ingredients and tastes super fresh and flavorful! 

So, this year instead of your traditional boxes of chocolate, why not make something with a little more of a personal touch? I promise these things will satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. Scroll down to the bottom for the full recipe!

makes about 1 1/2 cups caramel 

What You Need
For the Caramel
1 bag (14 oz) of caramels, unwrapped
1/2 cup fresh blood orange juice
Zest of 1 blood orange
1/2 TSP turmeric 

For the Cookies
Donsuemor Madeleines (normal and chocolate dipped)

For the Caramel
1. In a medium saucepan, heat the caramels and 1/3 of the blood orange juice over low heat. 
2. Continue stirring and adding in the remaining blood orange juice a little at a time, until the caramels are completely melted.
3. Remove from heat and stir in the orange zest and turmeric. 
4. Let cool for 10 minutes. 

1. Place the Madeleines on parchment paper. 
2. If your caramel doesn't drizzle easily (mine didn't), pour it into a small ziplock bag.
3. Cut a small (very small, you can always cut more if needed) piece off the corner like you would for frosting.
4. Slowly drizzle each cookie with the caramel. Once finished, let sit for 30 minutes or until the caramel hardens. Enjoy and store any leftovers in an airtight container!
