Hiawassee Travel Guide

This past weekend, my mom, sister and I headed up to the mountains for a girls weekend! Each year we spend a weekend in North Georgia enjoying the Fall weather and watching the leaves change. This year, we decided to try a new place- Hiawassee. From what I saw online, it looked beautiful and had a good amount of vineyards (very important). It was also only two hours away! Luckily for you, i've rounded up my top places to stay, things to do and places to eat. Now you have no excuse...start planning your trip before Fall is over!

No matter where we go, we always stay in VRBO or Airbnb homes. We just love the ability to cook and have tons of space! Check out some of my top Hiawassee homes under $200 a night below.

1. We stayed at Magnolia and loved it!
3.  Frog Leap

This is a moderate level hike that takes you to see these beautiful falls. It is dog friendly and about three miles long.

The most adorable vineyard I have ever been to in North Georgia. The atmosphere was great and the wine was absolutely delicious!

3. Just relax and enjoy your cabin and your company
Watch a movie, start a fire and make some smores!

4. Rent a boat and cruise around Lake Chatuge
We didn't get to do this on our trip, but Lake Chatuge is beautiful and seriously, who doesn't like spending the day on the lake?!

This place was amazing! It is a hidden gem located in Young Harris, GA. They use all local and organic products. Call and make a reservation beforehand if you don't want to wait!

2. Crane Creek Vineyards Tapas and Live Music
Friday evenings, Crane Creek has live music and tapas from 6-8. Be sure to make reservations!

Pumpkin Sage Spaghetti Squash

serves 6-8

What You Need
For The Squash
1 spaghetti squash, cooked and shredded
6 slices of bacon
Salt and pepper, to taste

For The Sauce
1/2 cup sun dried tomatoes, still in oil
1/2 sweet onion, diced
2 garlic cloves
3 sage leaves, minced
1/2 can (14.5 oz) of pureed pumpkin
1/2 cup tomato sauce
2 cups chicken broth (more if sauce is too thick)
2 TSP dried basil
Pinch of cinnamon

Bacon crumbles
Sage leaves, minced

For The Squash
1. Cook your squash following the directions above. Set aside to let cool.
2. In a large skillet, cook the bacon. Once cooked, set on a paper towel lined plate to drain oil. Once cool, crumble into little pieces.
3. Keep the bacon grease in the pan and turn the heat down to low. Add in the spaghetti squash, crumbled bacon, salt and pepper. Turn heat to simmer and let everything mingle while you work on the sauce.

For The Sauce
1. In a medium sauce pan, add in the sun dried tomatoes, onion, garlic, and sage. Cook over medium heat.
2. Once onions are softened, add in the pumpkin puree, tomato sauce, chicken broth, basil, and cinnamon. Stir everything together and let simmer for 15 minutes.
3. Remove from heat and pour into a food processor. Process until sauce is smooth. If the sauce is too thick, add more chicken broth.
4. Add as much or as little sauce to the spaghetti squash mixture and stir everything together. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

1. Place squash onto plate. Top with bacon bits and sage leaves. Enjoy!

Mountain Weekend

Hello from Hiawassee! Yesterday, we headed up this way for a fun girls weekend in the mountains. It is so beautiful with the leaves changing and the temperatures dropping. After how crazy work has been, I definitely needed some time away (as I currently answer emails...). After today, I will definitely be taking a break for the weekend! While we are up here, we plan on going on some hikes, trying out a vineyard, having a lot of bonfires and cheering on the Dawgs. What are y'all up to this weekend?!

Shirt Dress For Fall

Fall is finally here, but that doesn't mean it's time to stop wearing your favorite dresses! The key to mastering this is knowing how to style them correctly, so that they keep you warm and you still look cute. With help from Cabana Life, i'm styling this adorable shirt dress for Fall. This dress provides 50+ UV protection, which is a great plus. I am all about protecting my skin at all times!

To make it more Fall appropriate, i've paired it with a long cardigan, some booties and a wool floppy hat. Cabana Life has a lot of great UV protection pieces that are great for Fall. Taste of Atlanta Recap

Happy Tuesday friends! If you live in the Atlanta area and didn't go to Taste of Atlanta over the weekend, you really missed out! It was a blast and there were so many delicious things to try. Thanks to both Taste of Atlanta and Dining Out Atlanta, I got to experience some of the most amazing bites the Atlanta food scene has to offer. Since I love food so much (& I know you do too), I wanted to share some of my favorites with you. Warning- this will make you extremely hungry!

I started the day off by heading to the Grand Tasting Experience section. I walked around, checking out the booths and grabbed a glass of The Four Graces Pinot Noir. I visited this vineyard two years ago when I was in Oregon and it was just as good as I remembered.

Next stop was Public School 404, where they were serving up their chorizo mac n' cheese. OMG this was seriously one of the best things I ate all day! I am a huge chorizo and cheese fan, so it was an amazing combo. They also have the cutest menus and napkins playing off the name!

Next up was Bon Glaze. I absolutely love this donut shop! We got the blueberry sour cream and apple cider donuts. Both were equally amazing, but the apple cider is only available for a limited time! They now have locations in both Brookhaven and Buckhead, so head on out and treat yourself!

Now onto some amazing tacos from Rreal Tacos. They had 3 amazing choices, but I went with the Pork Trompo taco. It was slow cooked on a rotisserie and shaved off of to make the most delicious and flavorful pork. I will 100% be visiting this restaurant in the near future!

The sweets just don't stop! I had been wanting to try Honeysuckle's gelato for the longest time and was so happy to hear they were coming to Taste of Atlanta. When I walked by and saw that they had a pumpkin gelato sandwich, I knew I had to try it. Tis' the season, am I right?! If you want to try one for yourself, they are currently selling their pumpkin gelato in their PCM store.

Onto another spot I have been dying to try- The Halal Guys. They opened up a shop on Buford Highway over the Summer and I never got a chance to go by. I am a huge falafel lover, so obviously that's what I ordered. It was delicious, but super spicy! Next time, I would go without the hot sauce so I could really enjoy all the flavors.

My last sweet of the day was from Revolution Gelato. I try to eat dairy free most of the time, so when I heard about this gelato spot it went right to the top of my must try list. I got the Chocolate Fantasy with chocolate sauce on top. It was a lot of chocolate, but it was amazing and satisfied my sweet tooth! I will definitely be making a trip to their brick and mortar store to try more flavors and combinations!

We ended the day with some savory bites from Einstein's. When I saw that they had Manchego fritters, I was instantly drawn in. I hadn't had any cheese all day and I couldn't end the day without any! They even topped them with a garlic-chili honey sauce that was to die for. We also got their crab cakes that were served over a succotash and topped with a jalapeƱo remoulade sauce. Both were amazing!

All in all, Taste of Atlanta was an amazing event that satisfied every inch of my foodie heart. If you've never gone, I really urge you to go next year. You get to taste all the great food Atlanta has to offer, while enjoying the beautiful Fall weather. I am already counting down the days until next year!!

What a fun weekend it was! I got absolutely nothing done, but it was a much needed weekend spent with friends. I went to dinner at 5Church Saturday night, which was amazing. 1 cup almond milk
1/3 TBS maca powder
1/2 TBS maple syrup
2 TBS almond butter

Hemp seeds
Coconut flakes
Banana slices

2. Divide into 2 servings and place in the fridge over night.
3. Top with your desired toppings and enjoy!
